Jerome Tito, 24, caught the attention of the Northern Advocate as he pulled this manoeuvre while walking down the road this week.
The Whangarei man says the move is called "a flagpole" and he teaches kids to do it in his spare time.
The human flag move is also used in Parkour, a training discipline developed from military obstacle course training.
Mr Tito said whenever he sees the opportunity to become a human flag, he takes it.
