Kerikeri firefighters are taking part in a walkathon this weekend in a bid to raise money for charity.
About 10 members of the brigade are training for next month's Sky Tower Challenge in which firefighters race up the Auckland landmark's 1103 steps, while also competing to raise the most money for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand.
From 8am on Saturday, they will walk around Kerikeri's one-way system for 12 hours, with team members taking turns to walk and man an information stand outside Rock Salt bar on the corner of Cobham Rd and Kerikeri Rd.
Station officer Ben Scott said anyone was welcome to stop by for a chat about the cause.
They could also visit the fire station from 5.45pm on Friday when he would have his body waxed as part of the fundraising effort.
