Police have released the name of the man who died in the fatal crash on State Highway One south of Whangarei on Tuesday.
He was Rae John Adams, aged 45 years, of Whangarei.
About 7.15am on Tuesday Mr Adams was heading north on State Highway One. Police said he appears to have lost control and crossed the centre line on Smeatons Hill and into the path of a fully laden logging truck that was heading south.
Mr Adams was the sole occupant of the car. He died at the scene. The driver of the truck was uninjured.
