Local Government election year means it's time for a bouncy orange mascot to repeatedly badger people to enrol to vote, and all registered voters should soon have their election packs.
In Kaipara's 2013 elections voting in the postal ballot plummeted to 33 per cent.
This was likely influenced by the lack of a district council election, after the Government appointed commissioners to run the financially troubled Kaipara District Council, meaning Kaipara-dwellers only had a vote for district health board and regional council members.
The Far North had 49 per cent of those eligible voting in 2013. Whangarei sat at 48 per cent.
Anyone who had not received a pack by July 4 was not properly enrolled and needed to contact the commission. For more information see elections.org.nz, free text your name and address to 3676, call 0800 367 656 or go to any PostShop.
