Motorists can expect delays on State Highway 1 at Kamo this weekend while the NZ Transport Agency carries out maintenance work.
NZTA is urging drivers to plan ahead to avoid delays through the Kamo bypass which will be closed from 7pm tomorrow until 6pm Saturday. The bypass will also close on Sunday from 7am to 6pm for maintenance.
Detours will be in place along Kamo Rd for SH1 heading north and south and via Puna Rere Drive through William Jones Drive and Jack St. Heavy vehicles will be escorted through the site.
NZTA spokesman Tim Crow said SH1 was an important freight and transport link for Northland and everything would be done to ensure a minimum of inconvenience for drivers.
Meanwhile, NZTA has started a series of safety improvements on a section of SH1 in the Far North it says will increase the chances of people walking away from a crash without serious injury. The safety improvements from Dick Smith Loop Rd to Unahi Rd at Awanui, which includes widening the road shoulder and installing wire rope barriers, will take about five weeks and involve lane closures.
