Only one bag of rubbish was created during a day-long sustainable living event in Whangarei which attracted more than 700 people.
That achievement is just one reason why organisers and exhibitors are celebrating the success of Whangarei's second Sustainable Living Expo at NorthTec.
The event was run along zero waste principles. All coffee cups and food plates were biodegradable and, along with food waste, were composted after the event. With recyclable materials also collected, the whole event produced only only one bag of rubbish, organiser Myles Green said.
More than 30 exhibitors, with wide-ranging displays from electric and hybrid vehicles, solar power technology to mudbrick-making and eco architecture, kept the crowds interested and engaged.
The focus of the event was providing practical solutions for common environmental issues. The event also explored green concepts.
