Emergency services showed what they're made of at the Caring for Northland Summer Safety Day in Whangarei.
Police, St John Ambulance, the Fire Service and the Northland Rescue Helicopter were at Kensington Park yesterday where thousands of people got an inside view of the work done by people whose job it is to save lives.
That job often comes with big helmets, a lot of safety gear, sirens and noise, which can be scary for children.
But it was fun and confidence, not tragedy, that brought everyone together at the event organised to break down barriers and educate families about safety.
Activities included the Fire Service's combat challenge, St John holding CPR training and Northland Rescue Helicopter doing a mock winch rescue.
