Northland police are disappointed at catching five allegedly drunk drivers in two days, including one man who had two young children in the car.
Acting Sergeant Jeremy Weston said a Kaipara man had been charged with driving with excess breath alcohol for a third or subsequent time.
He was stopped after police said his car swerved across State Highway 1 shortly after leaving the Tokatoka Tavern about 9.10pm on Thursday.
Mr Weston said the car was stopped near Arapohue and officers found two young children inside. The driver allegedly told officers he was extremely drunk and then became emotional, asking them to let him go.
However, he was taken to the Dargaville Police Station and a test showed a reading of 856 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath.
