Drop, chop and roll at school champs

Tony Lim from Whangarei Boys' High School was the individual boys' champion, but victory wasn't easy as Springbank's Tim Richardson proved a massive hurdle in the semifinal.

The Northland Secondary Schools table tennis championships took place recently and saw competitors drop, chop and spin their way to victory.

Tyler Nankivell, Bay of Islands College, went undefeated, winning all 11 of her matches to be crowned Northland Girls champion.

Bay of Islands College's girls found the going relatively easy, sweeping Whangarei Girls' in the teams final, while Otamatea took out the boys' team division.

Boys' High's Tony Lim took out the individual boys' championship final while Tyler Nankivell from Bay of Islands College won the individual girls'.

Tim Richardson was the sole competitor from Springbank School and did well to finish third-equal in the individual boys'.
