Veteran wave riders, lifeguards, teachers, parents and a bunch of special-ability surfers had a great day in the waves at Ruakaka Beach on Saturday.
Dozens of people went along to the Ruakaka Surf Day to help at least 15 people with disabilities experience the joy of board riding. The event was organised by Tiaho Trust. As the surf event has proved so popular in the past, spaces were limited and priority given to those who had not tried it before. A beachchair was available to assist people in and out of the water and full support in the water was provided at a level of about three people to one surfer. Photographer
