Motorists heading south from Whangarei may need to detour at Waipu while roadworks are carried out over the next four weeks.
New Zealand Transport Agency is carrying out road repairs and maintenance on State Highway 1 between Nova Scotia Drive and Shoemaker Rd.
The work, which involves replacing the road surface on the Waipu bypass, is to improve safety and resilience on this stretch of highway.
This stretch of highway will have an unsealed surface for the duration of the works, and will be under a speed restriction.
The road will be reduced to one lane and traffic management will be in place, including stop/go signs at night. Night works will take place from 6pm to 6am each day.
