Thieves responsible for burglaries of five Dargaville businesses last week are yet to be arrested.

However, Dargaville police Senior Sergeant Rob Huys said officers were continuing to investigate the burglaries and confirmed they were making positive lines of inquiry.

Mr Huys urged anyone with information to contact the Dargaville police.

"I am pleased to report that we have not had any further break-ins in the area since last week and want to continue to assure the community that we are doing everything we can to find the person or persons responsible and hold them to account," Mr Huys said.

Last Wednesday night and Thursday morning, the commercial premises were broken into, including a Lotto and NZ Post shop where a Kiwibank ATM was cleared out in a previous burglary. Three businesses were targeted on Victoria St and two on Beach Rd with small amounts of cash being taken in the raids.

Police said Dargaville Post Shop and Lotto was burgled and unsuccessful attempts made to take money from a cash machine, but a small amount of cash was taken from elsewhere in the shop.

In September 2009, a large amount of cash, believed to be $120,000, was taken from the Kiwibank ATM outside the same store.

Information that can assist police can be passed on to Detective Sergeant John Tier on (09) 439 3400 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on (0800) 555 111.
