Cricket: Speedster Cody Andrews on cloud nine

Take a bow Cody Andrews, nine wickets in an innings is a special feat. The Maungakaramea quick produced stunning figures of nine for 25 to secure the win in his side's Oxford Trust two-day match.

Andrews, who also plays for Northland and Northern Districts A, ripped through the Zest Insurance Whangarei Boys' High School batsmen with a performance sure to keep him in Northern Districts selectors' minds.

After claiming three for 21 on day one, Andrews knocked the bails off seven of the opposition batsmen - with an LBW and a catch being the other forms of dismissal on Saturday - as Boys' High collapsed to 94 all out.

The only batsman to have any sort of run scoring success against Andrews was Nick Stobart who managed 39 from 49, before being bowled by Andrews.

The fast bowler's figures come a week after fellow Maungakaramea opening bowler Jason Morgan claimed seven for 31 against Boys' High School, on a day which saw 21 wickets fall.

Earlier on Saturday, Maungakaramea opening batsman Joe O'Sullivan had put his team in a great position by scoring a match high 92 - ably supported by Neal Parlane who finished unbeaten on 49 before declaring on 197.

Maungakaramea's win means the side sits top of the table with a two-win, two-loss record with one round remaining.

Sitting second - with a two-win, two-draw record - are Kamo, who also secured the win on Saturday.

Kamo managed to press on after getting themselves into a strong position last weekend, finishing the day with 297 runs in the bank and having City stranded on 60 for two overnight.

Kamo finished City off for 137 in their first innings and went on to add another 112 before declaring with six wickets down. City then went on to score a strong 235 for seven. Despite the best efforts of City's Zac Khawaja (89) and Ian Page (92), Kamo had done enough. No other City batsmen scored more than 11 runs.

With the ball for Kamo, Ben Hyde contributed 98 with the bat in the first innings along with four wickets for 35, before following that up with 15 runs and two more City wickets. Kamo's Eden Crawford was also a star with the ball in City's second innings, claiming four for 51 from 15 overs. For City, Lynton Staniford continued his strong debut season form - grabbing three for 42 alongside one for 54 in Kamo's first innings.

In the weekend's other Oxford Trust clash, Onerahi Central's Henry Cooper pressed on from last weekend to score 147 as his side drew with Kaipara. First innings points went to Kaipara.

Next weekend sees premier cricketers stay in two-day mode, with Kamo and Maungakaramea hosting Kaipara and City respectively. Boys' High will also host Onerahi Central.
