"It was a pretty good effort from the boys. It's been a very long while since we scored a big total like that so it was very pleasing," Cherrington said.
Kaipara Flats took the only outright win from the second round of the competition, beating Mangakaramea at Kaipara.
Maungakaramea took first innings points and should perhaps have got a lot closer to earning the maximum on offer but a combination of poor catching and a great century by promising Kaipara junior Noel Roberts gave the Kaipara bowlers something to bowl at.
Kieron Dill and Joe Robbins took up the challenge and bowled Maungakaramea out for 101, with Dill taking 5-29 off his 15 overs and Robbins 4-43 off 14 as Kaipara won by 90 runs.
Some gritty batting by City denied Whangarei Boys' High School an outright win on the second day of their two day match.
Zest Insurance WBHS scored 297 on the first day and after resuming at 30 without loss, City crumbled in their first innings to be all out for 148 in 46 overs. Nick Stobart (4-46) and Caleb Boswell-Smith (3-25) posted the best figures in a good WBHS bowling effort.
The students enforced the follow on and after starting well, City stumbled to be 45-3 at the end of the 14th over.
A gritty partnership of 85 between Steve Morris (55) and Ben Smith (34) saw City safely through to the 43rd over and although the Boys' High bowlers got on a roll after the partnership was broken, the City tail held out to be 163/8 at stumps to force the draw.
