The Northland side even claimed a team hat trick when Armitt took two wickets in two balls and then forced a run-out to take the sting out of Greerton's tail. Only three batsmen made double-figures for the team to finish on 198 for 10 after 50 overs, in what was a chaseable target.
What looked chaseable soon became improbable as Kamo's batting order fell away at regular intervals. At 76 for 2, the wheels fell off Kamo's innings, Greerton taking three wickets at the cost of two runs.
With Hyde, Boswell-Smith and player/coach Bruce Martin gone in the space of 15 balls, the bulk of Kamo's experienced batters were back in the sheds and while Armitt showed some resistance, carving three sixes, the total was too much for the Northland boys and they were all out for 134.
"We just couldn't get going with the bat, which has been the same kind of story all year, we haven't really threatened 200," Martin said.
As an ex-Black Cap and one of the most experienced players in the team, Martin said it was hard for the team to come back from losing their middle-order batsman to some ill-disciplined shots.
With an almost five-hour drive to the ground in Tauranga, Martin said the situation was never in their favour.
"It's pretty tough to drive all the way down there, smash out a one-dayer and drive back again.
"It's pretty disappointing, but I know we'll be better for it."
Martin credited Greerton's batting on a greenish wicket, which was hard to score runs on. He was impressed with his bowlers who gave them a chance early in the game.
"Boswell-Smith and Parkes were awesome up front and Armitt is the best spinner coming through Northland right now, and he pulled their run rate back nicely."
The young side would be back again next year after they won the 50-over final against Kaipara last week.
In Northland's premier two-day cricket competition, rain cancelled two of the games with the only game to start that between Coalies Onerahi Central and Kaipara Flats at Bourne Dean Domain.
In hindsight, Onerahi would have been quite happy to lose a game to rain after their first innings as they were bowled out for just 48 after 22 overs. Kaipara's Byron Jollivet tore through his opponents, taking seven wickets for 20 runs off his 10.4 overs. Kyran Dill took the remaining three wickets.
Kaipara could only manage two overs, scoring five runs, before the game was stopped due to rain. It will continue on Saturday along with the remaining games, Generation Homes Whangārei Boys High School against Kamo and Duracrete Products City against Westech Automotive Maungakaramea.
