Maungakaramea bowler Jason Morgan claimed seven for 31 against Zest Insurance Whangarei Boys' High School as 21 wickets fell in their Oxford Trust two-day game.

Morgan's contribution came at a crucial time as he gave his side the advantage, after they were earlier bowled out for 118.

He picked up his first of seven wickets on Saturday before Boys' High could score a run, giving his side the perfect start before going on to knock them over for 77.

Fellow opening bowler Cody Andrews picked up the other three wickets for 21 runs.

Earlier on Saturday, Boys' High produced a team performance as Fletcher Coutts and Jack Murphy picked up four wickets a piece. Caleb Boswell-Smith and Matthew Lobb also picked up a wicket each.

At the close of play, Maungakaramea were 56 for one with Joe O'Sullivan not out 29 after Bert Horner was out bowled by Chamodh Peiris and caught Lobb in the 18th over.

Kamo are in a good position against City, after making 297 runs and having City stranded on 60 for two overnight.

Leading the way for Kamo was Ben Hyde, who scored 98 and was gutted not to be able to bring up three figures.

"Yes it was [gutting]," he said yesterday. "We batted pretty well, right the way through we formed good partnerships, so did well.

"It's a pretty good pitch [in Kamo]. We'll have to bowl well [to get the win]. We're third [overall] and hoping to book a spot in the final with a few results."

Also scoring runs was Logan Choat, who chipped in with 75. Cam Johnson took both of Kamo's wickets.

In the weekend's other match, Kaipara scored 375 batting first. In reply, Onerahi Central were 90 for one, with Henry Cooper and Brad Kneebone not out on 60 and 25 respectively.
