Far North Cricket champions, Kaikohe, celebrate attaining the Tommy Grice Memorial Trophy after finishing the season in first, ahead of Kaitaia and Kerikeri. Photo / Supplied
Kaikohe senior men's captain, Alby Vadayal, is upbeat about the future of Kaikohe cricket after their success in the Far North Competition.
Kaikohe celebrated their victory of the Far North competition at the Northland College cricket grounds.
However, Kaikohe will be without the services of their captain, Vadayal, as heventures upon new horizons with a job relocation to Auckland this year.
"I'm really pleased with the team's win. Last year there were a lot of issues with participation," he says.
"I'll be really looking forward to seeing how they (Kaikohe) go next season."
In an official presentation with Far North Cricket Association's Peter Barnett, Vadayal and his team were awarded the 83-year-old Tommy Grice Memorial Trophy.
Kaikohe finished the season on 13 points.
The final results were close, with Kaikohe managing to edge out competitors Kaitaia and Kerikeri, both of whom finished on 12 points in a tie for second.
"It's not about the championship, it's about having fun," Vadayal says of the far north cricket scene.
The team would like to thank Northland College for use of their field through the season as it was a consistent team effort that got them ahead of Kaitaia and Kerikeri in the final standings.
