The 18 year old who was flown to Whangarei Hospital in a serious condition following a head-on collision with an ambulance is now stable.
The unlicensed driver, who was not known to police, was flown from Opononi by helicopter after colliding with an ambulance near Taheke on Monday morning.
Yesterday he was still in hospital and stable.
