Whangarei District Council is appealing for drivers to parallel park, rather than angle park, in its new Cameron St laneway and shared space.
"To this point we have been educating drivers, about how to park rather than issuing infringements, but we are still seeing people parking dangerously, or too close to other vehicles or seating, and a lot of people are angle parking," said Councillor Greg Innes.
The council has put in road cones, with "No Parking" signs atop, to stop people angle parking in front of shops on Cameron St (pictured). Mr Innes said parking was free for the first two hours on the roof of the Central City Carpark, which is on the corner of Rathbone and John Streets.
