Court proceedings were interrupted after a young complainant, frustrated at questions by the defence lawyer, broke down after being asked the position she was in while being allegedly raped.
The girl was giving evidence in the Whangarei District Court yesterday through closed circuit television when she broke down while being cross-examined by lawyer Arthur Fairley.
He is representing Bevan Edward Tiller, 37, who is facing three charges of sexual violation of a girl aged under 16 by unlawful sexual connection and one charge of sexual violation by rape.
Tiller denies the alleged offences took place.
The complainant said she did not know about sexual intercourse at the time of the alleged offences, although she knew what Tiller allegedly did was wrong.
