Follow the sound of carols and music tomorrow night to Raumanga, where the once-famous Christmas in the Valley event is back after a four-year hiatus.
Briarley Birch, of Te Ora Hou, said staff at multi-agency base The Pulse hoped to once again make the evening a regular fixture on Whangarei'sevents calendar.
She was thrilled at the calibre of performers the free event had attracted, which included Troy Kingi, Take 2, jazz musician Robbie Mulligan, Empire Dance Studio performers and even a band comprising Northland DHB staff members. .
"As soon as we said this is the kaupapa, they came on board," Ms Birch said. "Anyone is invited, but we'd love to have lots of people from on our doorstep in this community."
She said the space outside The Pulse on Raumanga Valley Rd was perfect for music events.
"It's like a natural soundcave because we're down in the valley ... The Pulse are having a bit of a facelift so we're wanting to bring life and flavour back."
Christmas in the Valley started small in 2004 and in its heyday attracted about 3000 visitors. This year Ms Birch said she would be happy with "anything over 500".
"It's basically a free, fun, event that encourages families to come along, bring a picnic blanket and enjoy the night."
