Northlanders will need to get out that extra winter blanket and wrap up when outdoors with a cold snap due to hit the region for several days from tomorrow.
MetService meteorologist John Law said another active trough will spread a bitterly cold southerly change across the country accompanied by snow to low levels and large wind chills from tomorrow.
Northland would not get the lowest temperatures but the region would experience a noticeable drop in the mercury.
Whangarei temperatures would fall to 6C overnight from a daytime high of about 13C. In comparison the low in Whangarei on Sunday night was 10C.
Dargaville and Paihia will likely have highs no greater than 13C-14C, Mr Law said.
