Waipu Surf Club IRB team win gold
Waipu Cove Surf Life Saving Club's under-19 team Dinoco won a gold medal in U19 Mens Assembly Rescue, and a silver medal in the IRB Tube Rescue race at the North Island IRB Championships held recently in Waihi. Enthusiasm for Art'nTartan evening
The audience buzzed with enthusiasm at last week's Art'nTartan information evening held in the Celtic Barn last week. Waipu Museum board chairman Ken Couper welcomed everyone and introduced production manager Claire Drake, and well known theatre director and actor Stuart Devenie who will direct this year's Wearable Art show and competition. Drake and Devenie outlined their plans for this year and emphasised their enthusiasm and excitement at being part of the Art'nTartan organising team. Audience members were invited to join the team over a glass of wine and nibbles and chat to the team who were happy to answer any questions about the event. Visitors were also invited to subscribe to the new Art'nTartan newsletter by emailing artntartan.newsletter@gmail.com and keep an eye on the Facebook page for the latest information and developments. Entry forms can be downloaded from the Waipu Museum website or printed copies are available from the museum's front desk. Closing date for entries is April 19 although garments do not need to be completed until preliminary judging on June 16.

Ruakākā Beach clean up
Bad weather last weekend meant the Telfer Young Northland Sustainable Coastlines clean-up day will now be on 9 March at Ruakākā Beach from 10am to 12pm. Helpers will assemble at Ruakākā Beach by the surf club and split into groups covering different locations in Bream Bay. If you're keen to help, message the Ruakākā Beach Clean Up event facebook page so they provide enough gloves and bags for everyone, or contact 4689599. Sunscreen, light refreshments and a sausage sizzle will be provided, and participants need to bring a filled water bottle, sturdy shoes, sunhat and sunscreen and snacks to keep them going while they help keep our local beach a beautiful place that everyone can enjoy.
Bream Bay sports awards
Keep voting for your favourite team or individual in Bream Bay's Sports Awards People's Choice – The Bream Bay Sports Awards evening where all the winners will be announced is tomorrow night at Waipu's Celtic Barn. Tickets are available now from the website www.breambaysportsawards.co.nz (there will be no door sales). The evening promises to be a great celebration of sport with Black Sticks Brooke Neale and Stacey Michelson as guest speakers. Get in some last-minute votes for your favourite team in the People's Choice award, also through the awards website – front runners for this award are currently: Richard Dunkerton (Bream Bay Swim Club coach), Tania Ahrens (Ruakākā Surf Life Saving Club referee), Takahiwai Rugby League Club's under 11s team, and the Bream Bay Trist junior hockey team.
This Saturday is the Pukapuka Party at the Ruakaka Village Green, from 10.30am to 1.30pm. This is the fourth year the Bream Bay Learning Community have organised the event for children aged 0-13 to encourage literacy in our youngsters. There will be plenty of free activities and stalls, and if children complete their learning passport, they receive a book pack. Every child will go home with at least one new book and lots of great educational resources.
Calling junior rugby players

Rally for junior hockey players
Bream Bay Hockey Club's junior rally day for players in year 1-8 is on March 3 at the Bream Bay College hockey turf. You can register your children for the season, eftpos will be available to pay subs. A sausage sizzle will follow games on the turf. The day is for new and returning players, or if you are just interested in finding out more.
