Seven Northland youngsters will be just a breeze away from a sailing adventure aboard the R.Tucker Thompson this winter thanks to Whangarei Lions.
Last December the club hosted the "World Festival of Magic" and raised $3700, with sponsorship by local businesses. During the ship's recent visit to Whangarei, Edna Johnson of the Lions presented the R.Tucker Thompson Trust's operations manager, Sam Meldrum, with the cheque.
The Whangarei Lions have a long history of sponsoring youth on voyages on "the Tucker".
The trust's seven-day Youth Development Voyages run between Easter and November, offering young people the chance for personal and social development in a unique environment.
Northland's tall ship, the R. Tucker Thompson, has been a regular feature in Whangarei, visiting at least once a year to provide sailings for locals on the Whangarei Harbour.
