Wet weather has meant holiday makers and campers are packing up and leaving Northland and police are warning motorists to take car in the wet conditions over the next few days.
Senior Sergeant Darren Sullivan said there was plenty of traffic heading south on State Highway 1 and reminded drivers the roads were particularly slippery so driving to the conditions was essential.
He also said maintaining appropriate following distances in the wet was important as it was a high risk time for crashes.
Patience was needed with heavy traffic flows and keeping to the speed limit or below.
