A Northland 17-year-old had an expensive new car for one day when he lost control in the wet and crashed into a hedgerow.
The crash occurred about 10.20pm on Sunday as the Opua man was rounding the corner of Inlet and Cobham Rds in Kerikeri.
Police said the driver took the corner too fast for the conditions, lost control and smashed into a hedgerow. He was uninjured but his modified Toyota Alteza was left with extensive frontal damage and towed away the next day.
He had bought the car in Whangarei that weekend, driven it to Kerikeri to show his girlfriend, then crashed as he was driving home.
The driver was issued with a warning for careless use of a motor vehicle. The car was not yet insured.
