A three-car collision on Whangarei Heads Rd near Parua Bay sent one vehicle off the road and into the mangroves.
Volunteer fire crews were called to the intersection at Pepi Rd about 6.45am yesterday.
Whangarei station officer Phil Allely said one car ended up in the mangroves but no one was trapped in either car or injured.
Fire crews used absorbent material to mop up oil from the road in the clean-up.
Whangarei crews were also called to the Toll United premises on Kioreroa Rd about 6.15am, where a light fitting was smouldering, but the fire was out on arrival.
