Book lovers will be in their element in Whangarei this weekend with a record number of books, CDs, DVDs and jigsaws for sale at the annual Zonta Great New Zealand Book Sale.
The sale - at Forum North tomorrow from 7am to 5pm and Sunday from 9am to 3pm - will have more than 1200 banana boxes of books on offer.
It's a record amount in the 20 years or so the sale has been operating, Zonta spokeswoman Bev Cowley said.
The number of books donated was huge surprise, especially as only two weeks ago Zonta was worried at the low numbers donated at that stage, and fearing one of the lowest amounts ever.
"After it was publicised in the Northern Advocate and Report that we had a shortage we had so many donated that it's our biggest sale ever," she said.
