Bay of Islands Coastguard's rescue boat is out of the water for the next two to three weeks for a major overhaul.
The work will include strengthening of the bow, repainting the tubes, a full engine and jet unit service, and cleaning and tidying work by Coastguard volunteers. A new intercom system, courtesy of an anonymous donor, will be fitted.
Haulage of the boat from Waipapa Landing earlier this week was paid for by a local company.
The boat will be housed at Coastguard member Kelvin Petrie's boatshed while the work is carried out.
Volunteer Russ Devin said coverage of the Bay of Islands would continue, initially using The Ark, a private vessel owned by Tim Roffey, and later using Coastguard Northern Region's vessel Manaia Rescue.
