He said the robbers ran out and turned left where it's believed they drove off in a blue Nissan vehicle. It was seen being driven dangerously through the nearby intersection before heading north on Kamo Rd.
The staff were not injured but left extremely shaken by the experience, Mr Hamilton said.
The female was being helped by victim support workers based at Whangarei Police Station.
Staff at Kamo Super Liquor yesterdaydeclined to comment about the incident.
Mr Hamilton said the men had covered their faces and were wearing dark clothing. Police were interested in sightings of the blue Nissan vehicle in nearby Clark Rd about 7.15pm - before the robbery.
And while officers have interviewed witnesses they are interested in speaking to a man who recorded the vehicle registration number but left before police arrived.
"This is very brazen ... it just shows the level these people are going to for pocket change really," Mr Hamilton said.
A week ago police arrested a 14-year-old boy after what they described as a ''cowardly and vicious'' knife-point robbery that left a shopkeeper traumatised.
Police said two knife-wielding youths entered the Omapere Foodmart in South Hokianga about 6pm last Tuesday.
One of the offenders grabbed the shopkeeper by his T-shirt and demanded money, then held the knife close to his face while the shopkeeper emptied the contents of the till into a bag.
Meanwhile a second youth helped himself to cigarettes from a cabinet behind the counter. Police are still to arrest a second suspect.
Over the past three months there have been several violent crimes, including armed robberies at Kaikohe McDonald's, Waipapa BP and a Kaikohe dairy.
