Police are investigating a serious crash in Kaikohe that left a man with serious injuries.

Police are investigating a serious crash in Kaikohe that left a man with serious injuries.

A man was critically injured in a Northland crash after the vehicle he was in went off the road and crashed into a paddock.

The man was a passenger in a southbound vehicle when it crashed on Mangakahia Rd and Ngapuhi Rd, Kaikohe, at about 8pm on Saturday. The man was critically injured and was airlifted to Whangarei Hospital.

He was in the vehicle with three or four others who sustained minor injuries. As of yesterday he remained in hospital in a serious condition.

Senior Constable Hans Hubner of the Serious Crash Unit said police were investigating the cause of the crash and taking witness accounts.

The crash follows a number of serious collisions in the Northland region. On Friday a motorcyclist headed south on SH1, north of Whangarei, was seriously injured when he crashed into the back of a car turning into a side street while he was overtaking another vehicle.
