Organisers of the inaugural Paihia Half Marathon which is planned for the Sunday of Queen's Birthday Weekend are pleased to see the event has been generating a buzz about town.
With only a few weeks to go, competitor numbers were looking good.
Paihia Half Marathon spokeswoman Laraine Chase, who has also organised several Orewa Beach Half marathons with partner Ed Lyman, said establishing a half marathon in Paihia had been a completely new kettle of fish.
She is trying to ensure the first one will be an event that competitors remember, and promised every participant will receive a keepsake pendant necklace in the inaugural year.
"The event can only grow and we can't see why it won't be as successful as the Kerikeri half marathon in a few years time," Chase said, adding she will be including a half distance in the event next year.
