Long held acquaintances were renewed, records broken and old rivalries rekindled as almost 100 masters athletes competed at Kensington Park at the weekend.
The North Island Masters Athletics Track and Field Championships were held over three days and attracted athletes ranging in age from their early 30s to well into their 90s.
"There weren't very many of those senior athletes but there are a few," Northland Masters president Graham Hardy said.
Several records fell over the weekend - largely in the field events - most often with athletes passing into a new age group and breaking an existing record.
"At the moment there are a couple of New Zealand age group records that have been broken but we'll have to wait until they are ratified before we can confirm them," Hardy said.
