One of Northland's top track and field exponents, Scott Gregory, has notched up a personal best in the senior boys shot put with a throw of 18.35m to finish third at the at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships at Aorangi Stadium, Timaru.
The Whangarei Boys' High School student also won the hammer title (64.13m), was second in the discus (54.80m) and has been named in the NZSSAA Track and Field Team, after a solid performance at the national event. Twelve months ago the Whangarei-based teenager left a firm imprint in the latter sport by winning junior boys gold (hammer and discus) and silver (shot) at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships in Wanganui.
This season his discus best with the 1.5kg implement has improved from 46.55m to 54.80m.
"I'm really enjoying my discus training at the moment, but probably my favourite and the one I've done the best in so far has been the hammer," he said.
Gregory's next focus will be the New Zealand Track and Field Championships in Dunedin where he hopes to compete in shot, discus and hammer before targeting the Australian Junior Championships in Perth.
