A 46-year-old woman has been charged with murder following a death in Pukenui this morning.
Detective Inspector Al Symons said police responded to reports of an incident at an address on Houhora Heads Rd around 12.30am.
“Upon arrival, police located a woman with critical injuries and despite efforts from emergency services, the woman sadly died at the scene.”
A woman was arrested at the address and a 46-year-old woman from Kaitāia appeared in Kaitāia District Court today charged with murder of a woman on April 4 and a charge of assaulting another woman the same day. Murder, a category four offence, carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment while assault, a category two crime, carries a maximum penalty of one year’s jail.
The woman was granted interim name suppression and remanded in custody to appear in the High Court at Whangārei on April 19.
