You couldn't miss him on the field but Northland will definitely miss Dan Pryor off it.
The loose forward has signed a deal with Japanese team Munakata Sanix Blues, who ply their trade in the Japan Top League, for the 2018 season.
He opted for his early release clause, endinga classy eight-year stint with Northland.
Watching the Taniwha this season won't quite be the same without the flowing dreadlocks of Pryor.
His decision to leave garners combating thoughts. On one hand, you love to see a person get rewarded for years of loyal service and hard graft but on the other you have to bid farewell to someone whose resonance goes beyond his abilities inside the confines of a rugby field.
Pryor is a tireless worker, whether playing at openside flanker or No 8. He always is a major contributor at the breakdown and on the defensive side of the ball.
He also led Northland in tackles made in 2017, highlighting his importance in the squad.
His ability to also run the tramlines out wide showed he could be just as impactful with ball in hand - his try in 2016 against the Chiefs was one of the great Super Rugby tries.
His selection for the Blues, Highlanders and New Zealand Maori over the years are testament to his on-field talents.
But beyond his visible characteristics on the park was his ability with the fans.
Though not a born and bred Northlander, he became synonymous with the region as fans flocked to him through a combination of his play and his hair.
His original nickname of "Pantene Pryor", due to the luxurious flowing locks soon changed into "DP" with the dreads. He was always welcoming to his fans after a match, regardless of what side of the result they ended up on.
No one is irreplaceable on the field but it'll be tough to match the impact Pryor had on the Northland supporter base.
They have the likes of Matt Matich, Kara Pryor and newcomer Kane Jacobson contracted and they will be strong figures in 2018 that will no doubt cover the absence of the older Pryor.
Kia kaha Dan, you've definitely earned the chance to cash in overseas but, quietly, we'd love to see you back in the Cambridge blue at some point!
