Police are studying CCTV footage as they continue to try to unravel events leading up to an alleged assault at Okaihau on Friday in which a man was hit on the head with an axe.
Senior Sergeant Brian Swann, of Mid North police, said a number of people involved had been interviewed and it was clear there was more to the incident than initially thought.
No decision had been made as yet on what charges would be laid. The Advocate understands the man accused of using the axe handed himself in to police on Monday to put his side of the story.
Lines company Top Energy has confirmed two of its staff were involved in the incident but will not comment furtehr while the police investigation is continuing. The Top Energy workers are not accused of using the axe.
The victim of the assault suffered minor head injuries and was treated at the scene by St John.
