Korewha's head was down and he was visibly upset and physically shaking when he walked in, saying he had not slept for 12 days and "couldn't live with this any longer", Mr Lloyd said.
He said Korewha told him: "I had taken her life Shane. I killed her Shane, I killed her. I am scared, I am frightened."
Mr Lloyd said Korewha wanted to "go away and not wake up" and when pressed to explain what he meant, he said he wanted to take his life and asked whether his boss would help him.
Korewha said he brought a gun and a hose in his sister's car.
Mr Lloyd said he told him Korewha he could not allow him to take his life.
Korewha said he came to see Mr Lloyd because he respected and trusted him.
Mr Lloyd said Korewha told him he was scared for himself and if he went to prison, a couple of Ms Moka's brothers who had gang affiliations would kill him.
Korewha begged for more time after Mr Lloyd said police needed to be notified for the sake of Ms Moka and her family.
Mr Lloyd said he dialled 111 but hung up as he thought he wasn't getting anywhere.
He then told his son who was on the way to the hotel to call police.
Korewha carried on and explained how he killed Ms Moka.
When Ms Moka left the marae after a fight, Korewha went looking for her.
By chance, Korewha said he found her hiding in a bush where another fight took place between the couple.
He then "completely lost it" and assaulted her.
Mr Lloyd said Korewha didn't tell him how many times he hit her but knew the assault was serious.
Korewha then lay beside her for a while and could hear her breathing heavily.
Korewha told Mr Lloyd he went back to the marae to get a blanket and when he checked on her in the morning she wasn't breathing.
Korewha said he would go back and move her body to a shallow grave somewhere and he also considered cutting her up but said he didn't have the guts to do it. The trial continues.
