A car with a grandmother and four children in it collided with a people mover that had a mother and three other children in it at Hikurangi.
Hikurangi police Senior Constable Russell Rawiri said inquiries were ongoing, but from initial investigations it appeared the southbound Toyota was pulling back into its lane on State Highway 1 after an overtaking manoeuvre and collided with the Nissan people mover as it pulled out of King St, heading north, about 1.30pm on Thursday.
Mr Rawiri said the Toyota contained a grandmother and four children, with one of the children in the back seat receiving a minor injury when the tablet she was using hit her in the face.
The mother and three children in the Nissan were uninjured.
Southbound traffic was diverted through Hikurangi as the collision blocked the lane.
