A man who allegedly drove off and crashed his car was one of at least 10 drink-drivers caught in Northland over the weekend. Police signalled the 25-year-old to stop on Western Hills Drive about 1.20am on Saturday, before he passed two cars at speed and lost control of the vehicle near Manse St. He blew 696mcg of alcohol. The legal limit is 250mcg.
On Station Rd in Kamo, three drink-drivers were picked up in less than two hours early on Saturday. One driver blew 477mcg, another had 500mcg, and a woman blew 629mcg.
A 19-year-old man was stopped in Maungaturoto and returned a reading of 596mcg, while a woman blew 619mcg in Dargaville on Friday evening. Four others were caught in Kamo, Rewarewa Rd, Water St and in Kaikohe. All have been bailed to appear in court.
