The Dorset village of Ewedown is typically quiet and reserved, and full of beauty. Little happens of note in the village and people simply go about their business.
But all that changes when Tamara Drewe (Gemma Arterton) returns to town.
When Tamara was last seen in the village she was a bit of an ugly duckling who didn't cause any fuss.
Now, she's a glamorous journalist who turns everyone's head with her sexy ways.
She's back in town to sell her late mother's house but she uses the opportunity to create mischief whenever she can.
Crossing paths with Tamara are an eclectic bunch - Nicholas, the sexy old flame and odd-job man; serial philanderer and author Nicholas Hardiment; his loyal wife Beth; and Beth's secret admirer, American writer Glen. Throw in Tamara's boyfriend, obnoxious rock drummer Ben, and a couple of smitten schoolgirl fans and you have all the ingredients for chaos.
Back home where she grew up, Tamara must work out who she is and who she wants to be.
Ben is a man who will never fit in to village life, but has Tamara become too distant from Andy to ever rekindle that romance?
Needless to say, every move Tamara makes affects others in the village in ways she cannot fathom.
This is a very British story in its setting and dramatic construction - it's certainly an entertaining journey travelling alongside Tamara.
