Ramona Quimby is one spunky little kid.
If there is life and fun to be had, Ramona will be at the front of the queue.
Based on Beverly Cleary's popular children's book series, the story of this precocious 9-year-old is one of the best family movies out there.
Ramona (Joey King) does a terrific job in telling us of the angst in her life. It would be fair to say Ramona has an active imagination. When things don't go her way, she conjures up some weird and wonderful scenarios of where her life is heading.
Because she is a little bit different and a little bit quirky, she doesn't fit in with the cool kids at school. Whenever she tries to be part of the crowd, something goes wrong and she ends up in a heap. As hard as she tries, she just doesn't know how to turn things around.
When her father (John Corbett) loses his job, Ramona takes it upon herself to find him a new path in life.
Ever-present in Ramona's life are sister Beezus (Selena Gomez) and Aunty Bea (Ginnifer Goodwin). They help her through the rough patches.
The return of teenage boyfriend Hobart (Josh Duhamel) to Aunt Bea's life threatens to take her away from Ramona and leave a huge hole in the youngster's life.
But Ramona has enough spirit in her for two people and she will overcome the troubles in front of her.
Ramona and Beezus is a lot of fun with an engaging story, some great characters and plenty of humour to keep you going.
