Freight-forwarding company Famous Pacific Shipping is to open an office in Whangarei.

Business development manager Maria Malaki said the company is still looking for a suitable location where they can operate their boutique service to exporters and importers in Whangarei and Northland.

"FPS is a medium-sized operator so we can tailor our services to the individual needs of our clients, rather than having a one size fits all approach."

She said the Auckland-based company specialises in all areas of international freight, such as door-to-door services, air and sea freight, using partial container loads through to multiple containers.

She said FPS has a global network and depth of experience to help Whangarei and Northland importing and exporting companies save money on their freight bill.

"Freight is a major cost for many companies and we can help cut some of those costs.

"We are keen on investing in Whangarei and developing a long-term relationship with exporters and importers and we have the tools and solutions to combat issues generally faced by most companies which we can elaborate further on," she said.

FPS also has a licensed Risk Management Programme warehouse facility at its Auckland Airport site, which caters for animal and plant products.

Ms Malaki said the facility is ideal for holding honey exported from Northland.

Honey is one of the three key strands FPS is focusing on in Northland - the other two are marine industry products and materials associated with the infrastructure and construction industries.

Ms Malaki said Whangarei's marine industry is an exciting opportunity for FPS and believes the company could help grow the industry.

"And we cannot wait to be one of the locals."
