Tokomaru will be helping King Kong conquer New York in Peter Jackson's latest movie.
Steam engines from the privately-owned Tokomaru Steam Museum, 21km southwest of Palmerston North, have been hired by the movie-makers to create an engine in a ship.
"We've got all the stuff they need to fit the role," museum owner Colin Stevenson said.
Crew from the movie visited the museum twice and have earmarked about 10 items for use in the film.
"I think it's great. It's really good publicity for us," Mr Stevenson said.
An American who worked on the Lord of the Rings film trilogy had visited the museum five times.
Mr Stevenson thinks that may be how the movie-makers heard about the museum.
"He reckons it's the best museum in New Zealand."
