Matt Damon has found supremacy at the box office. Damon's The Bourne Supremacy, the sequel about the amnesiac assassin he played in The Bourne Identity, debuted in the United States as the top weekend movie with ticket sales of US$53.5 million ($83.6 million), according to studio estimates. That was nearly double the opening weekend take of US$27.1 million ($42.4 million) for The Bourne Identity in 2002.
Halle Berry's critically derided comic-book adaptation Catwoman opened a distant third with US$17.16 million ($27.5 million), behind I, Robot, which took in US$22.05 million ($34.5 million).
Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 was No 7 with US$5 million ($7.8 million), lifting its domestic total to US$103.35 million ($161.6 million), the first documentary to top US$100 million.
Universal Studios made The Bourne Supremacy for about US$75 million ($117.3 million), a bargain price in a business where many thrillers cost US$100 million ($156.5 million) or more to produce.
