KEY POINTS:
The man drought is over for single Aucklander Christine Kitching - she's been overwhelmed with potential suitors since lamenting New Zealand's lack of decent men last week.
Kitching, 24, was the face of the Herald on Sunday's special report on the man drought last weekend, saying she was having a tough time finding any Kiwi men who were rugged enough for her liking.
Kitching, an administrator for Air New Zealand Fashion Week who originally hails from South Africa, said the country's single men were either gay, or "too emo". Other men turned out to be married.
Kitching said since last week's report, she had been inundated with Facebook messages from men.
But it appears none of them are to her liking either - she's not rushing out on any dates.
She had even been approached by a South African lifestyle magazine, interested in covering her plight: she hasn't had a boyfriend for two years.
Kitching said she was considering the offer "as a bit of fun" but stressed she wasn't "desperate" for a date.
Last week's report annoyed numerous Kiwi blokes, who used the internet to hit back at single women, calling them, at best "bossy," "demanding," and "self-obsessed," and at worst "ball-breaking mongrels," "fatties" and "drop kicks" with looks "akin to a Russian shotputter".
The comments came as leading Australian demographer, Bernard Salt, said Kiwi women were facing a man drought worse than that in Australia.
Statistics New Zealand said there was close to 100,000 more females than males in the country.
Several female readers noted that while NZ Dating had told the Herald on Sunday sex ratios of people looking to meet members of the opposite sex online were about even, not all the men were actually "single".
Said "Kazza"of Auckland: "I've been a member of the NZ Dating site and twice in as many weeks I've found out these 'single' guys are in fact married. I'm no fool and had been going out to dinner and drinks for over a month with each of them. It was luck I found out about the first, and the second's wife called me on Friday."
