KEY POINTS:
I'm not one to encourage the idea of "fast food" but I'm not stupid. I realise there will always be times when food is needed fast and times when one cannot even cope with the idea of pulling a pan out of the cupboard without throwing a hissy fit.
But fast food doesn't have to be the kind that has you feeling uncomfortable and swearing to run 5km at the break of dawn to assuage your guilt, so an alternative to buying great food from the winners of today's "Takeout Awards" is to try these recipes. Relax, pour yourself a glass of wine and in no time you and yours will be enjoying the fastest food imaginable.
The Vietnamese pork mince dish is super fast, juicy, healthy and incredibly tasty. The spaghetti is rich and delicious and will take all of 10 minutes from pan to plate while the glorified toasted sammie is the perfect fast food where you can throw in anything you have lying around the fridge. Choose good quality bread, add slices of the ripest tomatoes, fresh fragrant basil, leftover vegetables, perhaps some tuna or cold meat, whatever you fancy. And don't worry, pretty much everything tastes good in hot toasted bread combined with melting mozzarella.
Chef's tip
Pork mince can be substituted for either chicken or beef though pork works well because the higher fat content makes it juicier.
