Shrek 2 has become the most successful animated film screened in Britain, taking £45.6 million ($127 million) at the box office so far and outstripping the previous recordholder, Toy Story 2, which took £44.3 million ($120 million).
And the Shrek sequel looks set to rake in millions more - it is still playing at more than 400 screens around Britain.
The film, featuring the voices of Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy and Mike Myers, opened two months ago and is Britain's highest-grossing film of the year so far, taking a record £10.6 million ($28.6 million) on its opening weekend.
Diaz, Murphy and Myers each picked up $27 million to appear in the sequel to the monster hit of 2001.
The movie also features Antonio Banderas, Rupert Everett, John Cleese and Julie Andrews.
Film giant Dreamworks is working on plans for two more sequels.
The company is hoping for another animated hit this year with Shark Tale, which has its British release in October. Will Smith, Angelina Jolie and Robert De Niro lend their voices to the underwater story, billed as a cross between Finding Nemo and The Godfather.
