(Herald rating: * * * )
A compilation to the Afro-headed funk-cum-blaxploitation parody which scores because of its judiciously chosen old-school classics, among them the Commodores' Brick House, the O'Jays' Love Train, Gil Scott-Heron's The Revolution will not be Televised and the Godfather's Say It Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud. It's left to Scotland's Average White Band to Pick Up The Pieces and Wild Cherry to insist someone Play That Funky Music (White Boy). The movie's theme by Stanley Clarke hardly cuts it in this company, but Snoop Dog, with the help of Bootsy Collins and Fred Wesley, takes great amusement in Undercova Funk. A one-stop shop for an education in funk.
