Margaret and Noel Larsen celebrate 60 years of marriage and have some words of wisdom to pass onto young couples.
Noel and Margaret met at a bicycle race in Palmerston North where Noel raced and Margaret and her girlfriends watched the cyclists. One day Margaret locked eyes with Noel and that day she invited him back to her parents' home for supper, their first official date.
Noel said her warm, welcoming family was a deciding factor in his decision to marry Margaret.
"Margaret was involved in church, I went along and met her family. They accepted me and welcomed me in, making me feel like I was a part of their family," he said.
The couple moved to Levin in 1969 and took out three mortgages to purchase their first home for 3300 pounds.
